Anastasiya Squires (Ganzenko), a native of the historical city of Lviv, Ukraine, fell in love with music when she learned how to play the sopilka (native Ukrainian wood flute) as a preschooler. She played various tunes, folk songs, kolomyjka (Ukrainian folk dance songs) quickly from memory. As a 4-year-old soloist, she performed on stage with her 8-year-old sister who played the piano. She soon switched to flute. At age 8, she won her first international competition in Poland.
During her studies at school, Squires won 17 national and international competitions. After receiving a master's degree from the National Music Academy of Ukraine, she was invited to begin post-masters study at the Chicago College of Performing Arts of Roosevelt University in 2016.
Since 2016, Squires has won numerous awards and competitions in the States. She is the 2019 winner of the Aeolian Classics Emerging Artist Competition. As a part of her winnings for the Aeolian award, she performed numerous recitals at various venues in Illinois, and had her debut CD produced on Aeolian Classics.
She also received the special honor of an invitation to perform for the Dame Myra Hess Concert Series in January 2021.
