Cycle Through Summer at the Ed Rudolph Velodrome

Dust off your bicycle to enjoy Northbrook's one-of-a-kind Ed Rudolph Velodrome this summer! Located at 1479 Maple Ave, the distinctive Velodrome has offered cycle racing, training and entertainment for over 50 years. The facility is named after cyclist and speed skater Ed Rudolph who served on the Park District Board of Commissioners for almost 30 years.

Northbrook residents can use the quarter-mile track when it is not reserved for races, training or Park District events.

On Thursday nights in the summer, the Velodrome attracts top cyclists from the Midwest for weekly races, hosted by the Northbrook Cycle Committee. About 200 riders take part in the Thursday night races, achieving speeds of up to 45 miles per hour. Racers use track bikes with fixed gears and no brakes. Spectators are welcome at $2 per person (children 12 and under are free). Spectators enjoy a front-row seat to the action and share the exhilaration as they support the riders.

Youth Summer Cycling Program: Begins June 15. Young athletes will focus on training and skills on Wednesdays and compete in races on Fridays. This is not a learn to ride program. Riders must be at least 7 years old.

Kid's Duathlon: July 15. On your mark, get set, go! Test your skills at the ninth annual Kids' Duathlon. The event includes biking and running. Bring a bicycle (no training wheels), helmet and gym shoes. All participants receive an event T-shirt. After the event, participants can enjoy pizza, drinks and dessert.
