Ride for Hope Spring Fling event aids women with ovarian cancer

Ride for Hope, a 501(c)(3) motorcycle ride and celebration conceived and organized by JuliAnne Scully, a 38-year ovarian cancer survivor, will partner with Kim Panzarella, owner of Magnolia's Weddings and Events in Bartlett, for a Spring Fling "Shop for a Great Cause."

The Spring Fling event takes place from 6-9 p.m. Tuesday, April 26, at Magnolia's Weddings and Events, 389 Bartlett Plaza, Bartlett.

Funds raised will benefit local women battling ovarian cancer who are facing monetary hardships, as well as support the National Ovarian Cancer Coalition's efforts to save lives through the prevention and cure of ovarian cancer.

"Ride for Hope's mission is to spread awareness of the symptoms of this silent disease. Because there are no tests, knowing the signs and symptoms is the only way for women to advocate for themselves," Scully said. "We offer financial support to survivors and their caregivers in our area on this devastating journey."

Since 2015, Ride for Hope has donated more than $125,000 to the NOCC, as well as directly to five women battling ovarian cancer.

"We are all feeling the pinch of inflation and the stress of these past two years. Our hope is to lessen the burden for women suffering from ovarian cancer on top of that," said Scully.

Admission to the event, which will feature a variety of small craft and jewelry vendors and bakeries, is free.

"This is a chance to come out and support small businesses, make a difference in a survivor's life, and be a part of the Ride for Hope family," Scully said.

Raffle tickets will be available for purchase to win a gift card Chopper worth $1,000, and a handmade Harley-Davidson quilt. Everyone will be entered in a door prize drawing for a night of dinner and laughs at Zanies Comedy Club.

A cash bar will feature $5 teal-tinis and sangria, and butler service appetizers will be served.

For more information call Magnolia's at (630) 855-4413.

The seventh annual Ride for Hope is June 26. Bikers leave from Woodstock Harley-Davidson on a 65-mile, escorted ride. That will be followed by an after party at Nikkos Red Mill Tavern in Woodstock featuring food and drink, live music, raffle prizes, a silent auction and the Comfort Dogs.

A form to nominate ovarian cancer patients who need financial assistance is on the Ride for Hope website, www.rideforhopeil.org.
