Huntley's Shepherd of the Prairie to hold food drive March 6
Due to the success of past food drives and provide assistance to those in need, Shepherd of the Prairie Lutheran Church in Huntley will hold a food drive to benefit Grafton Food Pantry on Sunday, March 6, from 9 to 11 a.m. at the church, 10805 Main St.
"The Grafton Food Pantry has requested cooking supplies, personal care items and cleaning supplies," said Mike Yndestad, the church's community outreach chairman. "We will continue our first Sunday of the month food drives on April 3 and May 3 to provide the support for the items needed most by Grafton Food Pantry."
Members of the church's confirmation class will provide assistance with the food collection.
According to Harriet Ford of the Grafton Food Pantry board, "We have no peanut butter, jelly or jam, juice, or cooking oils, like vegetable, olive, corn or canola, and cooking spray. Also, while not critical items, we are very low on deodorant, lotion, shampoo, razors, dental products, and conditioner. It would also be great for us to receive dish soap, detergent, dishwasher pods or cleaning supplies."
Gift/gas cards are very helpful in assisting Grafton Food Pantry clients.
Monetary donations are welcome and extend the reach to help others. With every $1 donation, the Grafton Food Pantry is able to purchase an equivalent of $8 for food to help those in need. Checks should be made payable to Grafton Food Pantry.
The Grafton Food Pantry in Huntley serves individuals in need from Huntley, as well as portions of Algonquin, Lake in the Hills, and Crystal Lake.
