Firefighters rescue Russian-speaking parrot from tree: 'He's glad he's back home'

A Buffalo Grove man is full of thanks to the fire department after rescuing his beloved pet parrot.

He's an African Gray named Flint and speaks mostly Russian.

Owner Vlad Sievsky said Flint flew out the front door on Sunday and out of sight. They've had him for 15 years.

"The reason he talks Russian is because my parents mostly speak Russian around the house," Sievsky told WBBM Newsradio's Mike Krauser. "He knows all the words by himself."

The bird eventually was spotted 40 feet up in a tree in a neighbor's back yard, but Sievsky's ladder wasn't tall enough. The pet owner said the parrot made an attempt to move lower, but could only get so far.

He said at first the fire department said it couldn't help.

After another call, firefighters showed up and got him.

"He's super glad that he's back home," Sievsky said of the parrot.
