HERALD ATHLETE OF THE WEEK: GLENBROOK SOUTH'S SAMMI KLEMM

Entering matches Thursday at Niles West and Friday at home against Maine West, Glenbrook South's senior outside hitter had helped the Titans girls volleyball team to six straight wins and a 6-1 overall record.

A three-year varsity player, Klemm leads Glenbrook South with 72 kills, 67 serve-receives, 10 service aces and a 95.3 serve percentage, and is fourth on the Titans in digs with 31. In a three-set win over Glenbrook North on April 7, Klemm recorded 18 kills, 10 serve-receives and 6 digs.

Committed to Ithaca College in New York, the determined 5-foot-10 Klemm sustained a leg injury that knocked her out of her entire junior season "and came back better than ever," said Titans coach Kelly Dorn.

Next week, Klemm is headed to a national tournament with the MOD 18-and-under club team. "I'm very sad to see her go," Dorn said of the senior, "but I'm excited that Ithaca gets an all-around outside."
