Virtual 360 Tour of NIU Engineering Labs now available
Students who are curious about the fascinating research being conducted in the state-of-the-art laboratories at the College of Engineering and Engineering Technology (CEET) can now explore the labs virtually from their mobile devices or laptops at go.niu.edu/CEETlabtour.
The college released a virtual 360-degree interactive tour through its three buildings where viewers can virtually stroll through the halls, in and out of the classrooms, and get a close up look at the labs.
At various points throughout, viewers can click on links to view videos, read descriptions and visit the CEET website (niu.edu/ceet) for more details.
"We think this will really help prospective students get a true vision of what they can expect as a student and the level of hands-on opportunities they have to apply their knowledge," said CEET Dean Donald Peterson, Ph.D.
The tour was recorded by ClearSky Imagery, of Union, Illinois. CEET is the first university client of the firm.
ClearSky specializes in Space Marketing, by leveraging state-of-the-art technology, including 3-D scanning, drones, virtual staging and more, to enable viewers to experience any space remotely.
"The College of Engineering facilities at NIU is an excellent application for 3-D Virtual Tour technology," said ClearSky President Mike Ward. "It allows the university to showcase the classrooms, labs, and specialty equipment in a safe and effective manner."
Ranked in the top 35 of undergraduate engineering programs without a doctorate by U.S. World and News Report for 2021, the college is housed in three facilities totaling nearly 150,000 square feet and boasts more than 35 state-of-the-art laboratories that offer hands-on learning experiences to students from freshmen year through graduate school.
CEET was established in 1985, and offers degree programs accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) and the Association of Technology, Management and Applied Engineering (ATMAE) in electrical engineering, engineering technology, industrial and systems engineering, and mechanical engineering.
In 2018, CEET introduced bachelor's degree programs in biomedical and mechatronics engineering and in 2019, introduced doctoral degree programs in mechanical, electrical and industrial and systems engineering.
