'Operation Hospice Angel' seeks to brighten the holiday season for local seniors

According to AARP nearly 30 percent of people 65 or older live alone, and each year these seniors have fewer friends and family members they can depend on for care and companionship, often leading to social isolation.

The holidays can be an especially difficult time for those who are living alone, and this year the added isolation brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic is only increasing these feelings of loneliness.

That's why Transitions Hospice serving Northern and Central Illinois is inviting the community to come together to spread some holiday cheer through Operation Hospice Angel. This initiative aims to provide cards and paper angels to seniors who may be isolated from friends and family during this holiday season.

By creating a Hospice Angel, or simply a card, you can help bring comfort and a smile to a senior this holiday season. Imagine the smile on the face of a senior receiving a decorated angel, or a holiday greeting card with well wishes for the New Year.

Transitions Hospice is excited to see how much Operation Hospice Angel boosts seniors' spirits during the holiday season, and they are grateful to be part of a community that comes together to make this happen.

To participate in Operation Hospice Angel, visit www.transitionshospice.com/operationhospiceangel and download the angel template.

Decorate the angel however you see fit: glitter and markers, writing your favorite poem, decoupage from old magazines, or create your very own design. The only limitation is your imagination!

If you would rather not make an angel, choose any type of holiday card and write to provide a note of holiday cheer to a senior.

Once completed, send your angel to: Operation Hospice Angel, c/o Transitions Hospice, 1551 Bond St., Suite 143, Naperville, IL 60563.

The Transitions Team will be delivering angels throughout the month of December to patients in homes, communities and skilled facilities. Thank you for taking the time to give back, and know that your small act results in a very big smile and bringing joy to a senior this holiday season.
