Northbrook Youth Theater to stage Halloween musical

Northbrook Theatre Youth Company will perform "We Are Monsters" Friday and Saturday, Oct. 30 and 31, at the Ed Rudolph Velodrome in Meadowhill Park, 1479 Maple Ave.

The musical follows humans into a world of quirky characters, including vegetarian vampires, aliens and rock 'n' roll werewolves. During their spooky adventure, the humans discover the importance of friendship and embracing the attributes that make everyone unique.

Audience members are encouraged to come in costume and will be treated to high-energy, humorous musical numbers throughout the show.

"I'm really proud of this production and all the hard work of our performers," said Performing Arts Supervisor Drew Kambach.

"'We Are Monsters' has an important message for people of all ages - showcasing the themes of valuing friendship and celebrating differences."

Face coverings are required to enter the event. There is no fixed seating, and audience members should bring their own chairs and blankets.

"We're excited to have a venue the size of the Velodrome that will allow us to host a production outdoors," Kambach said. "This is a perfect addition to your Halloween weekend festivities."

Show times are 6:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 30, and 11 a.m. and 2 and 5 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 31.

Tickets are $13 and can be purchased at nbparks.org.
