Schaumburg Library Highlights College Essays and Costs in Free Programs

Three upcoming Schaumburg Township District Library programs for high school students and their parents will take place in October and focus on important college topics. All are free and available to attend via Zoom by registering to receive the Zoom link. Each program may also be watched as a live-streamed event on SchaumburgLibrary.tv.

"Virtual College Admissions Essays" will take place from 7-8 p.m., this Thursday, Oct. 1, and registration is open now. Thomas Jaworski, founder of Quest College Consulting, will assist attendees in crafting their personal narrative for college application essays. According to Jaworski, in the face of COVID-19, more schools are moving away from standardized tests results, which means there will be an increased emphasis on essays.

"The Financial Aid Process" is scheduled from 7-8:15 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 14, with registration beginning Oct. 1. Participants will gain insight on how financial aid works, how to apply for it, student eligibility and how it can be used to help pay for college.

"How to Prepare for the Rising Cost of College" will be held from 7-8 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 15, with registration beginning Oct. 1. Participants will learn valuable ways to handle the rising cost of college tuition. Thomas J. Jaworski of Quest College Consulting will explain the changes to the financial aid process and how to find scholarships. This program is designed for both parents and students.
