Schaumburg Library Extends Digital Resources to Area Students & Families

At a regularly scheduled meeting on Monday, April 20, the Schaumburg Township District Library Board of Trustees approved a temporary extension of the library's digital resources to students and their families who attend Schaumburg Community Consolidated School District 54 and Township High School District 211, even if they do not live within the library's service area. The extension of digital services will be available to these students and families until Tuesday, Sept. 1, 2020.

With Gov. Pritzker's announcement that all Illinois schools will remain closed for the rest of the school year, the library board is eager to be of service and support families participating in distance learning. This extension of the library's digital services is unprecedented, but board members felt it necessary to assist students and families by providing library access to those living in unincorporated areas or areas outside of a designated library district.

"While it's always important that the library reach out and be of service to our community, it's especially vital at this time of crisis," said Board President Anita Forte-Scott. "We truly are all in this together and we want our community to know they have the support of their library. We're proud to temporarily extend these services as a gesture of goodwill."

Schaumburg Library has many free digital resources and learning tools available through its website. This includes everything from eBooks and eAudiobooks available for download, to online tutoring and learning options, to high-caliber research tools.

President Forte-Scott also said she "encourages those living in the Schaumburg Library district who have not utilized their Library privileges recently, or ever, to do so now and see first-hand all that our library has to offer."

For access to these digital tools, residents of the District 54 or District 211 service areas must first sign up for a Schaumburg Library card by visiting catalog.schaumburglibrary.org/register. Once they have completed the form, they will have immediate access to all resources found in the eLibrary at SchaumburgLibrary.org.
