Participate in Oakton's Virtual 5K Spring Fun Run/Walk May 15-31

Lace up your sneakers, stretch those hamstrings and participate in Oakton Community College's Virtual Spring 5K Fun Run/Walk, May 15-31. This is a fun way for everyone to stay active and involved during this period of social distancing.

Choose the course, day and time. Run, jog, or walk in your neighborhood or on a treadmill. The 5K distance can be broken up into segments or completed at one time. Registration is available at: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/virtual-spring-5k-fun-runwalk-2020-tickets-101755984890. The first 250 to register will receive a T-shirt (unisex, adult sizes only). Normally the 5K event takes place at Oakton's Des Plaines campus, 1600 E. Golf Road. However, due to the ongoing pandemic, organizers decided to hold this year's event in a virtual format.

"Our goal is to encourage the community to engage in physical activity during this unprecedented time," Oakton Wellness Committee Co-Chair Lisa Bolinder says. "Engaging in an event like this can carry over for participants as they are more likely to continue with some type of physical fitness routine. Other benefits of participating include helping with cardiovascular health, mental health, bone and muscle strength, balance and weight loss."

When you cross your finish line, share your success on social media channels with #OaktonStrong included in the posts.

This event is generously sponsored by the Oakton Educational Foundation, John Crane, Inc., and the law offices of Robbins Schwartz.
