Dr. Thomas Schneider Jr. Installed as 2020 Secretary of the Chicago Dental Society

With more than 30 years of experience as a practicing periodontist in Chicago, Dr. Schneider will serve as Secretary of the Chicago Dental Society (CDS) in 2020. He and the other Board members were sworn in at a ceremony held on Sunday, November 17, at the Four Seasons Hotel. Previously, Dr. Schneider has also held multiple leadership positions within CDS' Northwest Suburban Branch and served on numerous CDS committees.

As Secretary, Dr. Schneider will focus his efforts on membership and attendance at the 155th Midwinter Meeting, taking place February 20-22, 2020, at McCormick Place West. The Midwinter Meeting is CDS' annual scientific meeting and one of the largest exhibitions of dental products and professional dentistry in North America - attracting nearly 30,000 attendees and generating more than $30 million for the local economy in 2019.

Dr. Schneider graduated from the University of Illinois College of Dentistry, and also has a bachelor's and master's degree from Loyola University Chicago and Loyola University's School of Dentistry with a Specialty in Periodontics, respectively. In addition to CDS, he is a member of the American Dental Association, Illinois State Dental Society, American Academy of Periodontology, Illinois Society of Periodontists, Midwest Society of Periodontology, The Odontographic Society of Chicago, and is a Fellow of both the International College of Dentists and the American College of Dentists.

Dr. Schneider has also taught dentistry for much of his 31-year career and is currently teaching in the Department of Periodontics at the University of Illinois Chicago College of Dentistry. He is also an active member of the Knights of Columbus.

He lives in Glenview with his wife, Sarah. They have two children, Peter and Margaret. When not practicing dentistry, Dr. Schneider enjoys woodworking, cars, boating, and is an avid fisherman.

Established in 1864, CDS is the largest local society of the American Dental Association, with more than 4,400 members in Cook, Lake and DuPage counties.
