Matching donations for YWCA Elgin's Giving Tuesday Dec. 3

The YWCA Elgin, a nonprofit organization that is on a mission to eliminate racism and empower women through educational programming and services, will once again participate in #GivingTuesday. It is a national movement designed to inspire people to support their local communities and create a better future.

Taking place on Dec. 3, to coincide with the start of the holiday shopping season, #GivingTuesday is a day of charitable giving, just as Black Friday and Cyber Monday have become synonymous with shopping.

The YWCA Elgin participates in GivingTuesday to raise funds for our programs and services, increase their visibility, and allow supporters to share, via social media, the reasons they support the YWCA Elgin.

This year's GivingTuesday campaign goal is to raise $13,000. These donations will be used to fill funding gaps for the existing programs such as school age child care, clothing distribution center, and Take 2 Creative Camp for teens.

"We're asking our supporters, members, and friends to join the #GivingTuesday movement by pledging to donate to the YWCA Elgin on Dec. 3. Even better, go to Facebook and Twitter and tell the world why the YWCA Elgin is important to you. Be sure to use the #Give2YWCAElgin when you comment and post," said Alana Freedman, director of marketing & fundraising. "We're thrilled that this year's donation will go even further, thanks to the generosity of an anonymous donor that is matching the first $1,000 in donations."

The YWCA Elgin, located in the heart of downtown, is dedicated to meeting the needs of women and families in the Elgin area. For the past 119 years, the YWCA Elgin has been on a mission to eliminate racism, empower women and promote peace, justice, freedom, and dignity for all. We strive to achieve our mission through the programs we offer: subsidized School Aged Childcare to working families, English classes to those looking to improve their lives through education, Family Literacy classes to our students learning English as a Second Language, preschool to our Family Literacy children, clothing to the needy, Take 2 Creative Camp for teens, prom dresses to those who would otherwise not be able to attend, and Workforce Development to those looking to increase their employability.
