Girls volleyball: Palatine nets another win over Prospect
Palatine's girls volleyball team ended its regular season with its second win in four days over Prospect.
The Pirates (23-12) stopped the Knights in two sets in their final match of the Maine West Pumpkin Tournament on Saturday and came back on Tuesday night to top visiting Prospect 25-21, 25-21 in the Mid-Suburban League second-place crossover.
Leading the Pirates' attack were Emily Campe (11 kills, 1 ace, 2 blocks, 5 digs), Karina Szafraniec (6 kills) and Sarah Elischer (3 kills).
Other key performers were Julie Garcia (18-19 serving, 2 aces, 10 digs), Brianna Squeo (10-10 serving, 3 aces, 7 digs), Allison Drake (20 assists, 6 digs) and Jillian Smith (6 digs, 1 kill).
Senior Grace Cacini led Prospect (19-11) with 6 kills and is now just 25 shy of the program's all-time mark of 642 set in 2010 by Sarah Hunt.
Jenna Acosta (5 kills), Ellen Sherwood (4) and Annie Wiley (30 were other leaders on attack for Prospect while Sarah Skaggs handed out 16 assists.
Skaggs (9 digs) and Mia Farraday (8) led the back row. Kasi Acosta had 2 blocks.
Conant d. Buffalo Grove: Led on attack by Natalie Jurgenson (8 kills, 13 digs) and Yuri Hara (6 kills, 7 digs), host Conant (17-17) won the third-place MSL crossover 20-25 26-24 25-15.
Top blockers for the Cougars were Jessica Sharp (7 blocks, 2 kills) and Chikere Oduocha (5 blocks) while Mackenzie Lunkes collected 12 digs.
Shannon Coglianese (14 kills) and Megan Mitsunaga (9) led the attack for the Bison (13-18). Claire Schneider handed out 18 assists and Ella McBride had 18 digs.
Barrington d. Wheeling: Host Barrington finished the regular season at 18-17 by winning the MSL fourth-place crossover 25-20, 25-18.
Jessica Horwath (5 kills), Noelle Daehler (4 kills, 2 blocks), Campbell Paris (3 kills) and Morgan Buckner (3 kills) led the Fillies' attack which was set by Felicia Guagliardo (18 assists, 4 digs, 3 kills).
Other contributors were Amanda Cleary (6 digs, 2 aces), Amelia Sigaev (6 points, 2 digs), Arianna Armando (2 digs, 1 ace) and Alyssa Rodda (1 dig).
Schaumburg d. Rolling Meadows: Host Schaumburg posted a 25-19, 25-14 triumph over Rolling Meadows (9-26), which was led on attack by Ashlyn Ryan (9 kills) and Patrycja Winnicki (3 kills). Erin Behls handed out 17 assists.
Hoffman Estates d. Elk Grove: Patricia Wadas (10 kills) and Josie Roberts (5 kills) led the attack for Hoffman Estates (10-15) in a 25-23, 25-4 win. Wadas also had 15 digs and 2 aces while Ashley Poland had 14 digs and 4 aces.
Marian Catholic d. St. Viator: Marian Catholic posted a 25-16, 25-17 ESCC triumph over the Lions (13-20, 1-5), who were led on attack by Marie Torosian (6 kills).
Marcelina Gorny recorded 5 blocks and Erin Aldana handed out 12 assists for the Lions, who received 12 digs from Reanne Valera.
College
Harper d. College of DuPage: Harper improved to 11-0 in the N4C with a 25-13, 25-15. 25-16 victory.
Amelia Reiter (11 kills), Rugile Jaciunas (8) and Natalie Asa (6) led the Hawks' attack set by Taylor Pfaller who had 26 assists and was 22 of 24 serving with 2 aces.
Ashley Rothenberg and Jaciunas each had 2.5 blocks and Rachel Kandefer added 2.
Jules Carusiello and Reiter each had 12 digs to lead the back row.
