Girls volleyball: Eighteen in a row for Fremd

The longest girls volleyball winning streak in the Northwest suburbs was extended to 18 straight matches as Fremd stopped Hoffman Estates 25-15, 25-12 on Tuesday night in Palatine.

Leading the Vikings (18-2, 6-0) in the Mid-Suburban West match were Rylen Reid (6 kills), Breslen Reid (5) and Cassie Seaver (4) while Allie Belmonte and Claudia Wala each had 3 blocks. Kayla Kraske had 2 blocks for the winners over the Hawks (6-9, 0-6).

Barrington d. Conant: Led by Jessica Horwath (8 kills, 3 digs), Noelle Daehler (7 kills, 4 blocks) and Campbell Paris (5 kills, 2 blocks), host Barrington (9-10, 3-3) took a 25-21, 26-24 MSL West win.

Other key contributors were Amanda Cleary (2 aces, 4 points, 12 digs), Amelia Sigaev (15 assists, 4 digs, 7 points, 2 kills, 2 Blocks), Arianna Armando (9 digs), Felicia Guagliardo (11 digs 7 assists) and Alyssa Rodda (7 digs).

Leading the Cougars (11-13, 3-3) were Danielle Smith (4 kills), Yuri Hara (6 kills, 14 digs), Natalie Jurgenson (11 digs), Payton Litney (9 assists, 13 digs) and Mackenzie Lunkes (5 digs)

Palatine d Schaumburg: Visiting Palatine (12-6, 5-1) remained one match behind Fremd in the MSL West with a 25-20, 25-15.

Emily Campe (7 kills, 1 block), Sarah Elischer (3 kills), Sydney Wiebe (5 aces, 3 kills, 2 aces), Jillian Smith (2 kills, 5 digs), Karina Szafraniec (2 kills, 1 block), Allison Drake (15 assists, 2 aces, 6 digs) and Delaney Dolen (4 digs) and Julie Garcia (4 digs) led the Pirates.

Buffalo Grove d. Elk Grove: Buffalo Grove junior outside hitter Megan Mitsunaga put down 10 kills as the host Bison (9-12, 4-2) posted a 25-20, 25-19 MSL East win over the Grenadiers.

Shannon Coglianese added 6 kills and Nicole Zdunczyk added 3 while Claire Schneider set the offense with 21 assists. Ella Bride collected 6 digs.

Rolling Meadows d. Wheeling: Host Rolling Meadows (8-17, 2-4) notched a 25-16, 22-25, 25-18 MSL East triumph over the Wildcats (10-13, 2-4),

Ashlynn Ryan belted 16 kills while Patryjca Winnicki added 10 for the Mustangs, who received 28 assists from Erin Behls. Winnicki also had 20 digs. Sophia Salemi collected 10 digs.

Hinsdale South d. Leyden: Hinsdale South posted a 25-19, 25-20 win over host Leyden which was led by seniors Kinga Nowacyk (3 kills), Jocelyn Escamilla (12 assists, 1 ace) and Jailynn Bravo (6 kills, 1 ace).

Benet d. St. Viator: State power Benet (21-0, 4-0), ranked No. 1 in the Daily Herald Top 20, won the ESCC match 25-14, 25-7 over the host Lions (10-12, 1-3).

St. Viator's offense was set by Cailyn Harrington (6 assists) and Erin Aldana (3 assists) while leading the back row were Reanne Valera (7 digs) and Maria Torsian (4). Marcelina Gorny had a block.

College volleyball

Harper d. Madison (WI): Rugile Jaciunas (16 kills), Rachel Kandefer (10), Ashley Rothenberg (8) and Amelia Reiter (7) led Harper College to a 25-19, 25-19, 19-25, 25-23 victory.

Kandefer added 6.5 blocks for the Hawks, who are now 7-0 in the N4C. Madison is in second place at 5-2.

Harper is currently the leader to be seeded No. 1 in regional playoffs.
