Schaumburg Library Offers Adaptive Programs

Children with autism spectrum disorders, sensory processing issues, or who are differently-abled have a variety of free adaptive programs to attend at the Schaumburg Township District Library, 130 S. Roselle Rd. To register, call (847) 923-3439 and inform the library of any necessary accommodations.

During adaptive programs, lights are kept dim and supports such as fidget toys and noise reduction earmuffs are available. Siblings are welcome to attend. The following adaptive programs will be offered in October and November.

Adaptive Storytime, for children ages three to six years with a caregiver, is slated from 10 - 10:30 a.m., Friday, Oct. 4 in the Storytime Room. Participants will enjoy books, soft music and lighting, along with movement activities. Registration is required.

Adaptive Play Group, for children from birth to six years old, will take place from 10:30 - 11:30 a.m., Friday, Oct. 4 in the Craft Room. This group is for children receiving or being considered for therapy services, along with their families. Children and caregivers can socialize while experiencing various sensory, fine and gross motor stations. No registration is required.

Autism Movement Therapy, for children ages three to six years with a caregiver, will be held from 6-6:30 p.m., Wednesdays, Oct. 9 and Nov. 6 in the Program Room. Wanda Lee Farnell, autism movement therapy certified provider, will lead this program supporting problem solving, speech, social, gross and fine motor skills through movement activities and a craft.

Adaptive Puppet Show, for children ages three to six years, will take place from 10-10:30 a.m., Friday, Nov. 29 in the Craft Room. Participants will enjoy interactive puppet stories and board books.
