Exhibits in YMCA Community Galleries Showcase Watercolors and Impressionist-Style Oil Paintings

Exhibits in the North Suburban YMCA's community galleries in April include watercolors by Karen Bonner, and impressionist-style oil paintings by Greta Schutt-McDonald. The art is for sale, and a portion of the proceeds benefits the Y's Visual Arts Program.

Karen Bonner is a student of Fran Vail, the Y's watercolor art teacher. She has entered several juried shows and has taken home prizes.

"I owe much of my artistic training to the classes I have taken at the North Suburban YMCA for the past five years," commented Bonner.

Although her educational background is in engineering, Greta Schutt-McDonald has always had an interest in art, especially oil painting. She sees the beauty in nature all around her and strives to capture the light, amazing colors and rich textures on canvas in the impressionist style, with a focus on landscapes and city scenes. Inspiration for her paintings comes from photographs she has taken at home in the Midwest, as well as on her travels in the U.S. and abroad.

The Y's Community Gallery showcases the work of artists living and working in the Northern suburbs in monthly exhibits. For information about the Gallery and other art programs at the Y, contact Cathie Winnie, cwinnie@nsymca.org.
