History Center & Girl Scouts Team Up to Save Earth

The Des Plaines History Center is teaming up with the Girl Scouts of America of Greater Chicago & Northwest Indiana to celebrate Global Recycling Day.

All children ages 5-12 and their families are invited to attend the History Center on Sunday, March 17 from 1:00pm to 3:00pm. This will be an afternoon filled with activities and interactive lessons on an important and timely subject: recycling.

The Des Plaines History Center's Interpretive Curator Emma Marston comments on the importance of conservation education: "Recycling is such an important issue to me because of the way it protects our planet's primary resources, and helps keep our world healthy. There are so many ways to reuse items that would normally get thrown out, and this program will be a great way to celebrate our planet and the power of recycling."

Carmina Gonzalez, Bilingual Recruitment Specialist for the Girls Scouts of America, will join Marston in leading this program. There will be a lesson and environmental craft, but the pinnacle of the afternoon will be a timed art competition comprised of only reusable materials at 2:00pm.

All children and their families are welcome to attend free of charge due to the generosity of VFW Post 2992.

This program will be especially useful to Girl Scouts who want to complete the "Daisy Petal, Use Resources Wisely" achievement.

The Des Plaines History Center is located at 781 Pearson Street, Des Plaines, IL 60016.
