Fox River Valley Chapter DAR names award winners

The Fox River Valley Chapter of the National Society of the Daughter of the American Revolution presented the fourth annual DAR Student Award Reception on Saturday, Feb. 23, in Huntley.

The annual program recognizes local students for their outstanding accomplishments.

The DAR Good Citizens Program and Scholarship Contest are intended to encourage and reward the qualities of good citizenship.

The students selected as the school's DAR Good Citizen must have the qualities of dependability, service, leadership and patriotism to an outstanding degree.

DAR Good Citizen Class of 2019 students are: Alyssa Spunder, Huntley High School, and Rebecca Medge, Jacobs High School.

The annual American History Essay Contest topic is "The Women's Suffrage Campaign," marking the 100th anniversary of the June 1919 passage of the 19th Amendment by Congress, allowing American women the right to vote and hold elective office.

This year's student winners are: Nolan Brady, sixth grade; Brady Seaburg, seventh grade; and Brandon Franezak, eighth grade.

Both Nolan Brady and Brady Seaburg are also District II winners.

The following students also participated in the essay contest: Evangeline Comings, sixth grade; Rose Lockard, sixth grade; Grant Bytner, eighth grade; and Sarah Mohr, eighth grade.
