Ninth annual holiday house walk set for Dec. 13

The Sunflower Garden Club of Sun City Huntley will host its ninth annual "Winter Wonderland House Walk for Charity" from 2 to 6 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 13.

Tickets are $10 per person and include entrance into six beautifully decorated homes and a dessert reception in the Fountain View Cedar Room on the day of the walk.

Tickets will be sold near the entrance of the Prairie Lodge Drendel Ballroom from noon to 4 p.m. Friday, Dec. 7; and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 28, and Monday, Dec. 3.

After viewing the homes, you are invited to sit and have coffee, tea and sweets with your neighbors and friends, and share decorating ideas and holiday traditions. The reception will be held during the same hours as the walk, from 2 to 6 p.m. The house walk and reception are both open to the community.

Proceeds from the ticket sales will be donated to several charities, including charities selected by the six homeowners.

The sponsors for the 2018 holiday house walk are Cruises International and Berkshire Hathaway/Stark Real Estate.

A special feature this year is the Huntley Historical Society's 71st designated site, the Conley Home in downtown Huntley.

Tom Conley, a retired pilot, and his wife, Barbara, bought the house in 1986 and have restored it to what it looked like in 1906, when an addition doubled its size.

The Conleys had about two dozen leaded glass windows restored, as well as furbished the house with period furniture and painting, including a Boston sideboard in the dining room that dates back to around 1790.
