Journalist Sam Weller to visit ECC for Writers Center Reading Series event Feb. 15

Elgin Community College will welcome Sam Weller as the next featured guest of the Writers Center Reading Series on Thursday, Feb. 15. The event begins at 7:30 p.m. in the Arts Center, Building H, Room H142, 1700 Spartan Drive, Elgin.

Weller is the two-time Bram Stoker Award-winning, authorized biographer of legendary writer Ray Bradbury and an associate professor in the Department of Creative Writing at Columbia College Chicago.

He is also a former Midwest correspondent for Publishers Weekly magazine. His books include "The Bradbury Chronicles: The Life of Ray Bradbury" (William Morrow), winner of the 2005 Society of Midland Authors Award for Best Biography, and "Listen to the Echoes: The Ray Bradbury Interviews."

Weller's personal essays have appeared in the Paris Review, Slate magazine, and on the National Public Radio program All Things Considered. His forthcoming collection, "The Shadows Behind the Trees", will be published in 2019 and he is currently at work on his debut novel.

All Writers Center readings are free and open to the public. A pre-reading dinner with Weller will be held at 5:30 p.m. Books will be available for sale and signing.

Upcoming ECC Writers Center Reading Series guests include author Nafissa Thompson-Spires on March 15, and poet Tim Seibles on April 19; both at 7 p.m.
