Fire Department, FBLA Celebrate Veterans, Fire Chief Retirement at November Meals for All

On November 8, 2017, Wauconda FBLA and Wauconda Fire teamed up to serve the community at the monthly Meals for All. Over the course of the evening, they served 119 guests and took meals to 19 people and families in the Wauconda area unable to attend.

FBLA and the Wauconda Fire Department would like to thank Panhandlers' Pizza for providing the meal and to Linda Starkey, a Wauconda Village Trustee, for providing the dessert. In keeping with honoring veterans with a free meal, Wauconda FBLA would like to thank all military veterans for their service.

Chapter Secretary Matthew Nolan commented "[Meals for All is] great because you get… to step in and make a difference".

About halfway through the evening, the community celebrated the retirement of Fire Chief Mike Wahl, who has served in the department for over 30 years.

Wahl, a lifelong Wauconda resident, noted that serving as the fire chief of a tight-knit village and "knowing a large portion of the people [who attended the November Meals for All] was a true honor. It was very nice to have the High School, Mrs. Mills, and FBLA acknowledge my retirement at a Meals for All Event. Thank you very much."

Wahl will continue to serve the community after he retires.

The evening was quite pleasant, and Wauconda FBLA looks forward to welcoming the community in December for a Christmas-style dinner sponsored by the Wauconda School Board and to listen to the Girl Scouts sing.
