ECC Writers Center to host monthly Coffee House reading event

The Elgin Community College Writers Center will host a monthly event encouraging ECC students, faculty and staff to share their original writing with the audience and receive feedback from others. Individuals are also welcome to participate as an audience member and enjoy the works of others.

The free event will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. on the first Wednesday of each month in Building B, Room 270 on ECC's Spartan Drive Campus, 1700 Spartan Drive, Elgin. Upcoming dates for the 2017-18 academic year include: Oct. 4, Nov. 1, Feb. 7, March 7 and April 4.

"We had a lively first Coffee House in September, with more than 20 participants," said English Professor Rachael Stewart, of the ECC Writers Center. "Students and community members read a mix of fiction, essays, and poetry. We look forward to hearing more new work in October and invite all area writers to join us."

The ECC Writers Center is an outreach program for students and members of the community who are interested in writing and literature. The center promotes and coordinates a variety of activities for area writers in all stages of development who wish to share their work in an atmosphere of constructive, respectful criticism.
