Learn about College Scholarships, Applications and More At Library's College Prep Programs

Several upcoming programs at the Schaumburg Library will help high school students and their parents navigate the college planning process, including scholarships, options, majors, applications and more. All of the programs are free, but require registration, and all take place at the central library, 130 S. Roselle Rd., Schaumburg.

"College 101" will be held from 7-7:45 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 3 in the library's Rasmussen South Room. A representative from the Illinois Student Assistance Commission will talk about various options, college visits, types of colleges, career options and criteria to consider when selecting a college and major.

Next up is "College Application: Case Studies" from 7-8 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 12 in the Adult Classroom. A representative from C2 Education will show samples of college applications and describe what the forms require and how students can highlight their strengths on the forms.

"The College Admissions Process" will take place from 7-8 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 18 in the Adult Classroom. Thomas J. Jaworski of Quest College Consulting will provide insight on which application deadline is best, how many a student should complete and how to begin the process.

"The Importance and Impact of Scholarships" is slated from 7-8 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 24 in the Adult Classroom. In this program, parents and students will learn about the different types of scholarships and how colleges and universities select recipients. A presenter from the Heartland Institute of Financial Education (HIFE) will also provide tips for the best ways to keep track of scholarship applications.

Parents and students will learn about the Free Application for Federal Student Aid during "Completing the FAFSA" from 7-8 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 25 in Teen Place. Members of the Illinois Student Assistance Commission will provide valuable tips for starting the process.

Concerns about affording college will be addressed in "College Funding" from 7-8 p.m., Thursday, Nov. 9 in the Adult Classroom. A presenter from HIFE will outline various financial options for working within specific goals and capabilities.
