Local Leader Gives Powerful Voice in Support of Alzheimer's Research

Senior Star at Weber Place is proud to announce that Executive Director Tom Johnsrud shared his powerful voice for the fight against Alzheimer's at the 2017 Alzheimer's Advocacy Forum in Washington, D.C. last week. Johnsrud met with key Washington representatives such as Senator Dick Durbin and others to discuss the importance of continued research.

According to the latest statistics from the Alzheimer's Association, Alzheimer's is the most expensive disease in America, costing an estimated $259 billion in 2017. In addition, for every $100 that the National Institutes of Health spends of Alzheimer's research, Medicare and Medicaid spend $16,000 caring for those with the disease.

Johnsrud joined more than 1300 advocates across the country who were chosen to attend the forum and communicate the necessity for both ongoing and expanded funding and research. No stranger to Alzheimer's advocacy and commitment to cutting-edge care, Johnsrud is on the forefront of efforts in Illinois. His steadfast pursuance has led to thousands of dollars raised for Alzheimer's research in addition to spearheading innovative programs for memory care residents at Senior Star at Weber Place, which have gained local and nationwide media recognition. Additionally, he is a key representative of Senior Star corporate, an organization that is nationally known for being a leader in the care of those who have Alzheimer's and for raising millions of dollars for research. Last year, Senior Star ranked among the top five nationally in fundraising efforts for the Walk to End Alzheimer's, toping nearly $575,000.

"Ongoing research is vital to eliminating this horrible disease," said Johnsrud. "We must continue to effectively communicate with our legislators who are in a position to hear our voice and make a difference."
