Ray Bradbury's 'Fahrenheit 451' comes to life Jan. 26 at ECC Arts Center

Ray Bradbury's classic novel "Fahrenheit 451" will be brought to life on stage by actor Rich Orlow at the Elgin Community College Arts Center on Thursday, Jan. 26. The Literature to Life stage presentation will be performed at 7:30 p.m. in the ECC Arts Center, Building H, 1700 Spartan Drive, Elgin.

"Fahrenheit 451" presents a frightening vision of the future: a future where instead of putting fires out, firemen actually start them in order to burn books. One night while returning from work, Fireman Guy Montag meets his new neighbor, a teenage girl named Clarisse. Clarisse's freethinking ideals and liberating spirit cause Guy to begin to question his life and his own perceived happiness. Adapted and directed by revered director Wynn Handman, the Literature to Life stage presentation of "Fahrenheit 451" features 60 minutes of performance spanning the full breadth of Bradbury's beloved American science fiction novel. Actor Rich Orlow tells the story from the perspective of the protagonist, Guy Montag, and also seamlessly transitions between the five other primary characters. A discussion will follow the performance.

This presentation of "Fahrenheit 451" is part of the Literature to Life series, a program of Young Audiences New York. Literature to Life aims to bring to life the world of important American literary works with performances that create an atmosphere of discovery and imagination. Literature to Life was created by the award-winning American Place Theatre, co-founded by veteran director, acting teacher, and producer Wynn Handman.
