Girls volleyball: Palatine goes to 3-0 in MSL West
Palatine remained on top in the Mid-Suburban West girls volleyball standings with a 25-17, 25-12 triumph over visiting Conant on Thursday night.
The Pirates (8-2, 3-0) were led on attack by Claire Chaplinsky (4 kills), and 3 apiece from Haley Holz, Corey Rinella and Beverly Ryan-Darrah.
Sydney Christiansen handed out 10 assist while Alyssa Kronberg had 9 digs.
Conant (8-9, 1-2) was paced by Michaela Vasalos (10 digs), Ania Baker (2 kills), Ally Peacock (2 kills) and Kristina Loznjakovic (7 assists).
Hersey defeated Buffalo Grove: Visiting Hersey (7-4, 2-1) remained tied for second in the MSL East with a 25-14, 25-10 triumph sparked on attack by Amy Morgan (8 kills), Kat Kaburov (5 kills) and Zoe Strozewski (3 kills).
Maggie Reisel was 34-of-35 setting with 16 assists while Liz Solans collected 8 digs and Julia Coniglio 7. Solans also served 4 aces while Reisel had 2.
The Bison (2-11, 0-3) received 3 kills from Kim Barton and 2 from Nicole Langer. Kiarra Akiyoshi collected 10 digs and Riley Cross served 2 aces.
Rolling Meadows d. Elk Grove: Visiting Rolling Meadows (12-5, 2-1) won the MSL East match 25-14, 23-25, 25-11 as Natalie Anderson, Madeline Rebsamen and Katie Zanocco each had 5 kills, Eleanor Errico added 4 while Natalie Klancnik and Macie Robinson each served 2 aces.
Klancnik (10 assists) and Mallory King (8 assists) shared the setting duties
Isabel Michniak led Elk Grove (2-8, 0-3) on attack with 4 kills while Mary Cronin (7 assists) and Lexi Chirbas (5 assist) handled the setting chores.
Cronin served 3 aces and Chirbas 2 while Rachel Kandefer led with 3 blocks and Holly Olson had 2.
Schaumburg d. Hoffman Estates: Visiting Schaumburg improved to 5-6 and 1-2 in the MSL West with a 25-15, 25-15 triumph in the MSL West.
Gabby Paelmo (14 digs 13 passes), Jordyn Harberts (4-of-4 serving, 16 assists, 5 digs), Micaela Encarnacion (2 kills, 12-of-12 serving, 1 ace),
Cassie Parrino (5-of-5 serving, 1 ace, 4 passes), Morgan Sterrett (7 kills), Julia Spitelli (6 kills, 2 blocks) and Briana Zegler (4 assists) helped lead the way for the Saxons.
Hoffman (0-9, 0-3) was led on attack by Monraia Wilson (3 kills) while Ashley Poland collected 17 digs.
St. Viator d. Regina: Juniors Kendall Claffey (9 kills) and Catherine Hickey (6) led the attack for visiting St. Viator (8-8) in a 25-23, 25-17 nonconference victory.
Carrie Leazer served for 4 aces for the Lions while Hickey and Michaela Mueller had 2 each. Mueller also handed out 17 assists.
College women: Harper (17-0, 4-0), ranked No. 1 in NJCAA Division III, won its 50th straight set with a 25-19, 25-18, 25-19 win over the Aurora JV.
Kathryn Novy (8 kills), Ellie Burzlaff (6 kills) and Katelyn Sommers (4 kills) led the Hawks' attack. Sommers also had 23 assists.
