Two hurt in Newport Township crash

A 24-year-old Spring Grove woman was injured in a two-vehicle crash Saturday at 10:45 p.m. at Route 173 and Kilbourne Avenue in Newport Township, authorities said. The preliminary investigation shows the victim was driving a 2004 Nissan and eastbound on Route 173 when the vehicle crossed the center lane and hit a 2006 Volvo semitrailer driven by a 39-year-old man from Mount Prospect. The Nissan driver had to be extricated from the wreckage by Newport Fire Protection District, authorities said. She was taken to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville with serious injuries. The driver of the Volvo was taken to Condell with nonlife threatening injuries. The crash is under investigation by the Lake County Sheriff's Office Technical Crash Investigations Unit, authorities said.
