Winfield Boy Scout Troop awards highest rank in scouting

Winfield Boy Scout Troop 575 has awarded the Eagle rank, Scouting's highest rank, to Robert (Bob) Lamar Draughon of Winfield. He is the 48th scout from the Troop to be awarded this rank. Ceremonies were held at Cantigny Park in Wheaton.

The Eagle rank is the highest rank in Boy Scouts. Nationally, only 5% of Boy Scouts achieve this rank.

As part of the award ceremony, Bob received letters of congratulations from President Barack Obama, Illinois Governor Bruce Rauner, U.S. Senator Mark Kirk, and U.S Congressman Peter Roskam.

In his speech, Bob stated that Boy Scouts taught him the values of, "God first, then country, then family, then friends, and lastly self," ideals that he hope to put into practice for the rest of his life.

For his Eagle Project, Bob restored the playgrounds at his church, The Well, in Geneva, Illinois.

Bob is a senior at Community High School in West Chicago, Illinois where he has served as a member of the Cross Country team and captain of the Track and Field team.

After graduation, Bob will be entering the U.S. Army as a Private E2. He is planning a career in the U.S. Army.

Winfield Boy Scout Troop 575 was founded in 1997 and is made up of Scouts from throughout Western DuPage County. The Troop is known for its commitment to the community, developing the moral character and leadership skills of its members, and producing Scouts with exceptional outdoor skills.
