Trinity Hosts Fair Trade Gift Market Nov. 13-14

Trinity International University will host a Fair Trade Gift Market on Nov. 13 and 14 in the Waybright Center on Trinity's main campus in Deerfield, located at 2065 Half Day Road.

A variety of Chicagoland's fair trade vendors will display products that shoppers in previous years have chosen for holiday gift-giving. Items available for purchase include home décor, clothing, handbags, accessories, jewelry, baskets, ornaments, items for children, and much more.

The fair trade movement helps artisans in developing countries by providing sustainable economic opportunities through a viable marketplace for their products. Your purchase of these items provides a means of employment and artistic expression for the artisans, plus proceeds are returned to their communities to support clean water, food, education, and other justice initiatives.

Many local vendors, such as The Mustard Seed (Lake Forest), Ten Thousand Villages (Evanston), and Causegear (Chicago) will offer hand-made merchandise from a variety of countries in Africa, India, South America, Southeast Asia, and Haiti.

The Fair Trade Gift Market will be open from 1-7 p.m. on Friday and 10 a.m.-2 p.m. on Saturday.

Visitors to the market will also enjoy holiday music and festive food, including fair trade chocolate, coffee, and baked goods.

"This year, you can use your holiday spending to make a difference in lives around the world," said Heather Cordero, Director of College Activities and the event organizer. "Make a positive impact this holiday season by shopping at the Fair Trade Gift Market at Trinity International University."

The event is free and open to the public. For more information, visit tiu.edu/fairtrade.
