Great Chicago Tragedy - An Inspirational Account

October 8th marks the one-hundred and forty-forth anniversary of the 1871 Midwestern disaster which brought the prize of the New World to its knees - The Great Chicago Fire. Many still mourn the loss of over three-hundred American lives tragically stolen that day by an inferno which engulfed the city. By October 10th, the clanging of the fire-bells had stopped, the screams of terror had ceased, and the rain came to douse the fire that had already begun to burn itself out, satisfied with the victims it had claimed. Although the city has healed and the survivors are long deceased, the memory lives on in stories passed down from generation to generation.

Overshadowed Theatrical Productions, a not-for-profit, Christian, theatre organization has premiered an original, biographical period-piece entitled SongSmythe. This production, set during The Great Chicago Fire, depicts the heroic lives of hymnist Philip P. Bliss and senior law partner Horatio Spafford. This touching story explores the concept of God's peace and providence through horrible, unexpected tragedy. This production features several original lyrical compositions mixed in with breath-taking performances of already beloved hymns. Performances run from September 11-12, 17-19, 24-26, to October 1-3, showing at 900 Foster Avenue in Medinah, IL.
