Cary Physical Therapy hosts scoliosis workshop

On Saturday, Nov. 1, Cary Physical Therapy hosted a specialized workshop that focused on using a Pilates-based approach for Scoliosis Intervention for both adolescents and adults.

Lise Stoltze, a certified Schroth Scoliosis Physical Therapist and certified principal educator for the Polestar Pilates Method, taught the eight-hour course at Cary Physical Therapy to 12 physical therapists and Pilates instructors.

Because the rehabilitation needs of the adolescent and adult with scoliosis can differ, the theories, spine mechanics, bracing, and the Schroth Method were addressed.

Pilates applications that support the specific needs of both the adolescent and the adult with scoliosis were demonstrated.

Cary Physical Therapy incorporates Pilates exercise in physical therapy for many of their patients.

Learning aspects of the Schroth Method for scoliosis patients will help to bring more success for alleviating the curve progression in adolescents while providing adults a way to alleviate some of the pain and limitations associated with scoliosis malformation of the spine. There is hope for the "s" shaped spine.
