SAOC Attends Chicago Symphony Concert

On Friday September 19th, students from Science Academy of Chicago located in Mt. Prospect, IL headed to Chicago's Millennium Park to attend one the Chicago Symphony Orchestra free concerts in the Park. Essad Sengun stated "I liked the conductor because he was jumping up and down. Ricardo Mutti is definitely known for his passion for the music he portrays. "Maestro Muti and the CSO offer a free concert each year as part of their ongoing commitment to Citizen Musicianship, using the power of music to contribute to our culture and to our community.(www.cso.org)" Upon arrival students ate dinner in view of Millennium Parks Cloud Gate and then found their seats on the grass within Pritzker Pavilion. Kubra Taysever in the 8th grade felt that it was "a relaxing and soothing event." This field trip was in conjunction with a class project where students have to find a concert to attend outside of the school and write about it. The venture was a good opportunity to fulfill the Illinois state standards in Music 26A.3c: Describe the processes involved in composing, conducting and performing. This also met the national Standards in Music stating student will be able to evaluate music and music performances. Students had previously watched a video of the London Symphony perform Tchaikovsky Symphony No.4 in class and it was a wonderful experience to hear the Chicago Symphony Orchestra perform it live. Vera Kartal in the 4th grade said they had "the best time of their life." Science Academy of Chicago is committed to shaping each student into to well-rounded and motivated individual by achieving academic excellence through a rigorous STEAM curriculum and diverse school culture. Students will be performing the Finale from Tchaikovsky Symphony No. 4 during the Annual Winter Concert which will take place December 5th, 2014.
