Passing your GED is 1st step to better future, D214 Community Ed registration starts tomorrow

District 214 Community Education will offer free registration and placement testing tomorrow, August 26, and Thursday, August 28, to those interested in getting their Illinois High School Equivalency (GED). If interested, please stop by at 6 p.m., Room A212, at Forest View Educational Center, 2121 S. Goebbert Road, Arlington Heights.

"GED testing this year is now computer-based," Maureen Ruddy, ABE/GED head instructor said. "We are hoping that students will take full advantage of this. It's now a simple and an easy way that allows for consistency in delivery, scoring, reporting, and security."

Once registered and placed, students will attend classes on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 6:30-9:30 p.m., starting on September 2 for 14 weeks.

Starting this year, taking a paper and pencil GED test is no longer an option. "GED is no longer an endpoint for adults, but a springboard for more education, training, and better-paying jobs." said Rhonda Serafin, Adult Education & Family Literacy manager at District 214 Community Education.

Both Ruddy and Serafin added that the new computer-based testing will require the individual being tested to have at least minimal computer and keyboarding skills. It will also measure career- and college-readiness skills.
