Lakes makes its own breaks, takes Round Lake

Lakes’ girls basketball team finally put some points up in beating visiting Round Lake 65-44 in North Suburban Prairie Division action Wednesday night.

“It is nice to get a win, as they have been hard to come by this year,” Eagles coach Pete Schneider said. “We changed up some things this week offensively and the kids took to it. I have incredibly hardworking kids led by some seniors that have been exceptional leaders.”

Those seniors include Alexis Lee, Sam Ney and Kelsey Kohler. Ney led the way against Round Lake with 16 points, while freshman Olivia Pawlak added 14. Schneider said sophomore Ellie Haviland played solid in running the offense, while contributing 11 points.

While Lakes is 4-18, Schneider added his squad is showing some growth.

Round Lake was paced by Justice Clark and Destiny Brown with 14 and 9 points, respectively.

“Howard Conkling does a great job with his kids,” Schneider said. “He continues to coach them and shows he cares.”

Antioch 64, Wauconda 47: Paige Gallimore scored 22 of her 36 points in the first half for the Sequoits in the North Suburban Prairie contest.

Gallimore also finished with 5 steals and 3 rebounds. Amy Reiser scored 13 points for Antioch (17-6, 7-2).

Wauconda (9-7, 4-3) got 9 points from Lauren Nee. Katie Rossetti grabbed 10 rebounds and scored 6 points for the Bulldogs.

Grayslake North 59, Johnsburg 42: Kendall Detweiler scored 18 points, including three 3-pointers, to lead three Knights in double figures in Fox Valley Fox Division action.

Grayslake North also received 16 points from Maggie Fish and 10 from Brittney Thibeaux.

Marian Catholic 60, Carmel 26: The Corsairs fell in the East Suburban Catholic matchup.
