Kids celebrate noon New Year’s Eve in Des Plaines
About 40 children joined their parents to ring in the new year at the first Preschool New Year’s Eve Party at Prairie Lakes Community Center on Tuesday, Dec. 31.
The celebration began at 10:30 a.m. with crafts; coloring; games including musical chairs, freeze dance and Simon Says; and free playtime on the mats.
“We had so much fun; we hope to do this every year,” said Karyn Roth, Recreation supervisor. “This event gives families a chance to celebrate with their children, even if they do not stay awake until midnight.”
Families toasted with sparkling apple cider and sported sparkly hats and tiaras. Minutes before noon, everyone assembled on the mats with their noisemakers and counted down to the noon balloon drop.
Registration is open for winter classes, programs and events. Winter program guides are available online at www.DPPArks.org and in all park district facilities. For more information, call (847) 391-5700.
