Marian Catholic stops St. Viator

Defending Class AA state champion Marian Catholic (5-1) improved to 2-0 in the East Suburban Catholic Conference with a 70-35 victory over visiting St. Viator on Wednesday night in Chicago Heights.

The Lions slipped to 5-4 and 0-1 in the ESCC.

Maddie McAteer led the St. Viator with 10 points while teammate Kelsey Trimble added 6.

The Spartans raced to a 22-6 first-quarter lead and never looked back in their first home game since winning the 2013 state crown over Rolling Meadows.

Marian Catholic faces Fremd at 5 p.m. on Saturday in the Chi Town Showdown at Whitney Young High School.
