Korff, Hersey in fine form

Junior Annie Korff had her career game as the Hersey girls basketball team cruised to a 70-31 victory over Hoffman Estates on Friday night.

The 5-foot-9 forward poured in 27 points and grabbed 9 rebounds as the Huskies improved to 4-0 in the Hoffman Estates Thanksgiving tournament.

Korff’s 27 points were the most scored by any Huskie this season.

“Annie worked real hard rebounding and got most of her points inside,” said Hersey coach Mary Fendley. “She got a lot of points in transition and got a few putbacks.”

Senior Morgan Harris also reached double figures for Hersey with 16 points and 6 steals.

Freshman Kelly Weyhrich added 9 points with 6 assists and classmate Claire Gritt collected 7 points, 7 rebounds and 5 steals.

“We’re playing pretty well, so that’s exciting,” added Fendley, whose team takes on Harlan in its tourney finale at 7:30 p.m. today.

Hoffman Estates (0-4) was led by freshmen guard Monraia Wilson (10 points) and classmate Maya Bowens (9).

Mother McAuley 51, Maine West 47: SeniorBrittany Collins scored a game-high 23 points and pulled down 8 rebounds for the Warriors (3-2).

Julia Huinker added 11 points and Abbey Herling had 7 assists and 7 rebounds for West in the fourth-round game of the Hoffman Estates Thanksgiving tournament. Teammate Erin Ross collected 7 points, 4 assists and 2 steals.

Libertyville 51, Buffalo Grove 50: Senior Courtney Meyer hit five 3-pointers and finished with a team-high 17 points for BG (1-3) in its own Bison Classic.

Other double figure scorers for the Bison were Maddie Callahan (14) and Maddie Welter (13). who had three 3-pointers. Kim Herzog also had a 3-pointer for BG.

Resurrection 52, Wheeling 47: Junior guard Deanna Kuzmanic scored 24 points with two 3-pointers for Wheeling (2-3) in the Niles North tournament game.
