Operation Basket Brigade Gives Families A Reason To Say "Thanks"

DUPAGE COUNTY—Nearly 300 DuPage County families in need will be able to celebrate Thanksgiving with all the fixings thanks to “Operation Basket Brigade.”

This past Monday (November 25, 2013) the DuPage County Health Department’s Office of Risk and Emergency Management (OREM) were able to test and validate their emergency operations plans, which would be realized during a public health emergency. However, instead of receiving/distributing medical materials, OREM sought donations that would help provide Thanksgiving dinner to county families in need.

The goal for Operation Basket Brigade was to collect enough food to make 200 baskets consisting of items needed to make a complete Thanksgiving dinner.

The baskets, which were assembled by OREM staff and volunteers, were provided to all 9 DuPage County Townships (210 baskets), the Peoples Resource Center (40 baskets) and the Veterans’ of Foreign Wars (52 baskets).

Last year, during the inaugural launch of this program, 145 baskets were assembled and distributed throughout the county. The success of Operation Basket Brigade is a testament to the generosity of DuPage County residents.
