Adventist GlenOaks honored as Best Friend of Illinois Parks

The Bloomingdale Park District announced today that valued partner Adventist GlenOaks Hospital was awarded Best Friend of Illinois Parks – Large Business by the Illinois Association of Park Districts (IAPD).

Representatives of Adventist GlenOaks Hospital will be honored at the IAPD's Best of the Best Awards Gala Sept. 27 at Wheeling Park District's Chevy Chase Country Club.

"We are honored to receive this award for our partnership with the Bloomingdale Park District,” said Adventist GlenOaks Hospital Chief Executive Officer Bruce C. Christian. “Supporting the mission of the Park District and its fitness initiatives fits well with our practice's passion to motivate the Bloomingdale community to become healthier through fitness and active lifestyles.”

The Park District nominated Adventist GlenOaks Hospital because of its support, involvement and the impact the business has had on BPD residents (primarily in the area of health and wellness).

“It is so rewarding for us to be able to partner with an organization whose mission and focus on wellness is so incredibly aligned with our mission and focus,” said Bloomingdale Park District Executive Director Carrie Fullerton. “Adventist GlenOaks Hospital supports the park district's interest in taking a proactive approach in making health and wellness accessible to all of our residents.”

AGH and its representatives have proven an ideal fit in Park District programs and events.

To wit:

• Over the past year, AGH offered a free comprehensive adult cardiac risk assessment to Park District residents through its seasonal brochure. The offer included a blood sugar test, body fat assessment, personal lifestyle analysis, risk factor identification, EKG, total cholesterol test, and blood pressure assessment.

• In November, AGH is scheduled to host a blood drive at the Johnston Recreation Center. Of paramount importance is the fact that the blood donated benefits the local community.

• In addition to blood drives, AGH also offers free prenatal education classes, and free prenatal labor and delivery tours. The Park District advertises these events in its e-newsletters, online web calendar and flyers.

• At the Park District's Fall Fitness Open House held Sept. 11, AGH provided blood pressure and pulmonary screenings to fitness participants.

• At the BPD's Family Olympic Day special event in the summer of 2012, AGH representatives were on hand, dispensing water and sunscreen to participants competing in ultra-hot and sunny conditions.

• At the annual Sunrise Shuffle 5K, AGH provides lip balm, hand sanitizer and Band-Aids for runners. They have also showcased orthopedic surgeons with an “Ask the Ortho!” table for runners.

• The last two summers, AGH employees have been treated to a free day of “splashtastic” fun at the Park District's Oasis Water Park. Residents benefit as well, as AGH employees pass out lip balm and suntan lotion.
