Bags tourney raises money for charity

Submitted by Algonquin Lions

The winners of the fourth annual Algonquin Lions-Buffalo Wild Wings Charity Bean Bag Tournament received cash prizes and team certificates for placing in the 32 team double-elimination tournament held at Algonquin’s Buffalo Wild Wings.

The charity bean bag tournament benefits the Algonquin-Lake in the Hills Interfaith Food Pantry and the Algonquin Lions Ted Spella Education Award for a Community Unit District 300 student. Ted Spella was president of the village of Algonquin and president of the Algonquin Lions Club.

The Lions also sponsored a bags raffle with prizes valued at $4,500.

“We had 83 area businesses support the charity tournament with sponsorships, team entries and raffle prizes,” said John Cygan, tournament chairman. “The community has been very supportive of this project and the Lions are very thankful for the great participation.”

The Algonquin Lions Club is the village’s oldest service organization, chartered in 1939. The next two general meetings will be at 6 p.m. Mondays, Sept. 23 and Oct. 14, at Martinis on Main, 8 S. Main St., Algonquin. For details, visit lionsclubofalgonquin.org.
