SAS Architects & Planners, Northbrook, to Design Addition to Meadowbrook Manor, LaGrange

SAS Architects & Planners (www.sasarch.com) has been retained to design a new, expanded nursing facility at Meadowbrook Manor (www.meadowbrookmanor.com) , LaGrange, Ill. The facility, which offers long- and short-term transitional care, is located at 339 Ninth Ave., in what was the original LaGrange site of the Illinois Masonic Children's Home, built in 1911.

SAS is designing a 197-bed, three-story addition to replace and expand Meadowbrook Manor's nursing facility. Because of the building's historical nature, portions of the existing structure were retained, and the new addition will emulate and complement the original colonial architecture, explained SAS President Steven E. Sussholz, AIA.

“One challenge was to design and phase the project so that the facility can remain open throughout the construction process, without endangering the safety of residents and staff,” he added.

The project is scheduled for a year-end 2015 completion, according to John Maze, director of construction for Butterfield Healthcare Group, which owns and operates Meadowbrook Manor.

“When completed, the new facility will offer spacious state-of-the-art private and semi-private suites, allowing guests a more tranquil and serene environment in which to recover,” said Maze. “Designed with personal comfort in mind, we've taken into account the unique needs of each individual and combined a progressive healthcare model with the amenities and hospitality people expect from a fine hotel.”

SAS has worked previously with Butterfield Healthcare Group, designing assisted living and skilled nursing facilities throughout the Chicago area over the last 15 years.
