Roskam expects to be cleared by ethics commission
A Wheaton congressman embroiled in an ethics scandal says he expects a congressional ethics committee to clear him of any wrongdoing.
The (Crystal Lake) Northwest Herald reported that Peter Roskam made the comments at the opening of an affordable senior housing community in Lake in the Hills on Monday.
The House Ethics Committee is investigating a claim made by Office of Congressional Ethics that the Taiwanese government improperly funded a 2011 Taiwan trip that Roskam took with his wife. Roskam’s daughter was also teaching in Taiwan at the time. Roskam has noted that the ethics committee approved the trip in advance of their departure.
The eight-day trip cost roughly $25,000. Roskam’s office says the majority of the cost was related to travel to and within Taiwan.
