Midwestern U. welcomes community to new clinical campus

More than 200 community members, local dignitaries, healthcare professionals, and University officials were on hand as Midwestern University unveiled its new $113 million Multispecialty Clinic in Downers Grove at a dedication ceremony and open house held on July 16, 2012. The 193,000 square-foot Multispecialty Clinic will provide a wide-range of healthcare services to the community and feature graduate healthcare students offering care under the close supervision of faculty mentors. A cornerstone of the facility is the state-of the-art Dental Institute, which offers high-quality dental care at about half the cost.

Local officials at the event expressed their gratitude to the University for providing quality healthcare services to the community while continuing to invest in Downers Grove.

“We take great pride in seeing projects like this come to fruition in our community” said Martin T. Tully, Mayor of the Village of Downers Grove. “(This facility) doesn't just bring a very handsome building to Downers Grove, it doesn't just bring much needed services, it brings jobs to our community, it brings bright and shiny minds to our community, it polishes our reputation, and it also brings the kind of community involvement for which Midwestern is already famous.”

Those in attendance at the dedication ceremony were invited to tour the facility and speak with some of some of the College of Dental Medicine-Illinois students already at work in the clinic. Midwestern University welcomed its first class of dental students in 2011 and the clinic will provide an important training ground for their future careers as dentists.

“When you come to Midwestern University you can't help but feel inspired because they continue to strive to improve their services to provide the best academic environment they can for their students,” said State Representative Ron Sandack (81st District). “They are all about service and they are helping to provide great medical talent to folks who need it. I continue to be amazed at what they do here and I'm thrilled that they continue to do it here in Downers Grove,” he said.

The clinic will also include a Family Medicine Practice, a Speech-Language Institute, and other health services. “This entire structure is a teaching facility for our students. It's also a place where patients from the community can be part of the teaching process and have a huge role in the development of Midwestern students as they become professionals,” explained Kathleen H. Goeppinger, Ph.D., President and Chief Executive Officer of Midwestern University. “We are proud of the fact that we have been able to bring this clinic to Downers Grove and we are here to provide quality service to our community,” she added.
