Learn to transform your backyard at native plant sale

Learn gardening tips and how to turn your backyard into an eco-friendly haven for birds, butterflies and wildlife at Schaumburg Park District’s annual Backyards for Nature Fair and Native Plant Sale from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday, May 5, at Spring Valley Nature Center, 1111 E. Schaumburg Road.

This free celebration of local environmental stewardship will feature activities for the entire family. A scavenger hunt, garden activities, birdhouse building, a puppet show and free wildflower seedlings will be available for children.

Adults will learn about composting, attracting birds and rain gardens. There will be an auction of painted rain barrels.

A large variety of native shrubs, wildflowers and grasses suitable for the home landscape will be on sale throughout the day. Garden experts will provide information on how and where to use various native plants, home composting, rain gardens and more.
