Mundelein edges Lake Zurich
Mundelein’s softball team stayed hot and avenged a loss at the same time Monday.
Andrea Funteas’ line-drive single to center field with two out in the first inning scored Maddie Zazas from third base for the only run, as the Mustangs held on for a 1-0 win over host Lake Zurich in North Suburban Lake Division action.
It was the eighth straight win for Mundelein (16-3, 4-1), which loaded the bases on 3 walks in the first.
Erin Kennelly pitched a 2-hitter for the Mustangs, striking out one and walking two.
Kennelly, Zazas, Maggie Mahar (2-for-3) and Abbey Rosenow all doubled for Mundelein.
Libertyville 3, Zion-Benton 0: Haley Alban, Jamie Stevens and Andi Katz all had 2 hits for Libertyville. One of Alban’s hits went for a double, and she also got the pitching win. She recorded 4 strikeouts and gave up just 1 walk.
Grayslake North 12, Evanston 3: The Knights rolled up 12 hits, thanks to 2 hits apiece by Jordyn Bowen, Kelsey Borders, Nikki Livengood, Sarah Littleton and Kaitlyn Olsen. Littleton had a home run and a double. Bowen, Livengood and Borders all had a double as well. Livengood also got the pitching win. She went the distance and rolled up 10 strikeouts.
Warren 10, Stevenson 0: Pitcher Jana Wagner kept Stevenson off the scoreboard. She gave up just 2 hits and 3 walks while striking out 5 batters. Offensively for the Blue Devils, Megan Sowa went 4-for-4 with 2 triples, a double and a single. Michelle Vasen and Jazmin Bonke each added 2 hits. Warren is now 13-4 on the season and 4-1 in the North Suburban Lake Division.
Carmel 6, Nazareth 2: Kathleen Felicelli paced Carmel with 3 hits, including 2 triples. The Corsairs also got a double out of Jenny Behan. Pitcher Nicole Bitter got the win. She went the distance and rolled up 8 strikeouts to just 2 walks.
Lake Forest 8, Vernon Hills 6: Tori Smith and Carly Stern each had 3 hits for Vernon Hills, which drops to 1-9 overall.
Hampshire 5, Grayslake Central 4: Hampshire scored 3 runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to rally for the win.
