Plass Appliance closing 5 suburban stores

After 75 years in the appliance business, Plass Appliance is closing for good in the Chicago suburbs.

An announcement on the company’s website Friday indicated the company would be shutting down its five remaining stores in Addison, Elmhurst, Geneva, Naperville and Northbrook.

The company was started by brothers Art and Ed Plass, who opened their first showroom in Villa Park near the Ovaltine plant. When the siblings left to go to World War II, they handed the business to their brother Walter, who ran the business with his wife Eunice for over 50 years, according to the company website.

The couple’s sons Harold and Dale later took over after their parents retired.
