Des Plaines Park District golf course opens Friday

Lake Park Golf Course, 1015 Howard St., Des Plaines, opens for the season Friday, April 5. The 18-hole, par three course overlooks Lake Opeka and has holes that range from 50 to 115 yards.

“Lake Park is the perfect course to practice your short game, and a great place for everyone, especially youth, to learn how to play golf,” said Brian Panek, manager of golf and facilities for the Des Plaines Park District.

For more than six years, the Des Plaines Park District has participated in the Sticks for Kids program, which provides clubs at no cost to young golfers.

The course is open approximately 32 weeks, 8 a.m. until dusk through May, and 7 a.m. until dusk June through October. Residents pay $9 during the week and $10 on the weekend for 18 holes, with lower rates for people over 65 and youth.
