Metea Valley falls in WW South tourney final

Metea Valley reached the championship game of the inaugural Wheaton Warrenville South MLK Tournament, but Oswego beat the Mustangs 50-38 on Monday.

Snapping a halftime tie, Miles Simelton and Zach West helped Oswego (17-2) outscore Metea 30-14 in the second half. Simelton led all scorers with 20 points followed by West with 14 and Oswego’s Darion Reddick with 12. Sophomore Bryson Oliver led Metea with 9 points, Vin Patel and Hayden Barnard scoring 8 apiece.

Metea (13-7) reached the championship with a 52-43 win over Palatine earlier on Monday. Sean Davis scored a team-high 21 points, Patel scoring 9.

WW South (5-13) rallied from Saturday’s loss to Oswego to win twice on Monday and claim the consolation title of the eight-team tournament. Mike Kramer hit four 3-point baskets and scored 21 points and Matt Kienzle scored 9 points to lead the Tigers past Oak Lawn 58-30.

WW South won the consolation semifinal 39-37 over Lincoln Park as both Kienzle and Brett Struebing scored 8 points.
